A deadly of game chicken like the one seen here happens every day in the expanse of space between phoenix-tetra and alchor prime known simply as the "gray expanse".
Although it once was a major trade route partoled by the Phoenix Fleet, since the stargate program began it was abandonded until black marketeers discovered its value as a smuggling route. Smugglers don't play fair however and they routinely try to destroy thier competition by any means they can, often times attempting to ram smaller vessels off course and into a drift. Since the middle of the expanse puts you almost 10 light years from any sign of civilization, disabling the warp engines is as good as total destruction, since they will die of starvation, that is of course if pirates dont raid thier cargo and kill the crew...
